Tutoring Services

I am an educator with over 40 years of teaching experience. I have been privileged to work with students from preschool through high school. My love for teaching has enabled me to impact the lives of numerous students and also to mentor other teachers.

English and math are my specialties. Both subjects are rule governed. If one knows the rules and how to apply them, the chances of success in each area are multiplied. Given these strengths, I have taught SAT Prep in addition to regular high school English (G/C I - G/C IV English literature) and math courses (Algebra I, geometry, Algebra II, Algebra III/Trig).

My ability to identify deficits in the basic skills enables students to overcome their fear of math. Students are required to show their work so that they can go back and identify their own errors. The importance of understanding math terminology is stressed so that students fully understand what is being asked and the information that has been provided.

The foundation of correct English usage hinges upon an understanding of the parts of speech and how they function. Diagramming is an excellent tool to visualize the relationship between words, phrases, and clauses. Each mark of punctuation serves a purpose. Many students use these haphazardly to decorate their writing. My goal is to help students understand the "why" behind each usage. Comprehension of these fundamental skills positively impacts student writing. Reading and comprehension of substantive literature also facilitate writing skills.

My availability for tutoring is flexible; however, scheduling a week in advance is preferred.  A 24-hour cancellation notification is required.
